Definition

Server-side ad insertion () is a server-side technology that enables publishers to insert ads, typically targeted to an individual or household, into live linear programming and video on demand content. SSAI does this by fetching ads from one or more ad servers and stitching those ads into the video content as a single stream that gets delivered from the server/cloud to the viewer. It is often used as an alternative to client-side ad insertion () for a variety of reasons including inserting in devices such as connected TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, and other consumer electronic devices that lack client-side capabilities and/or thwarting ad blocking.
